Ghanaian footballer Mubarak Wakaso expresses grief and condolences for the passing of his close friend Christian Atsu, who died tragically in an earthquake in Turkey.
Atsu, a winger for Turkish club Hatayspor, was unable to be rescued after being trapped in the rubble with the club’s sporting director, Taner Savut, following a devastating earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria two weeks ago.
Wakaso and Atsu had a long-standing friendship, regularly engaging in friendly banter on social media.
Wakaso took to social media to mourn the loss of his friend, simply stating “Rest well” alongside heartbroken emojis.
Atsu was only 31 years old and is survived by his wife, Marie-Claire Rupio, and two children.
The football community has offered their condolences to the Atsu family and all those affected by the tragedy.
