A radio presenter and entertainment analyst, Mr. Kpeewa, has raised concerns over the decision by organizers of the Ghana Northern Music Awards (GNMA) to announce a car as the ultimate prize for its maiden edition.

Speaking over the weekend on Gbewaa Entertainment Chat on Radio Tamale, Mr. Kpeewa described the decision as hasty, cautioning that it could affect the long-term sustainability and credibility of the awards scheme.

According to him, newly established award schemes that aim to be consistent and sustainable must operate within their means, gradually expanding as they grow. He argued that introducing a high-value reward such as a car at the very beginning sets a standard that may be difficult to maintain in future editions.

“An award scheme must cut its coat according to its size,” he said. “If you start with a car as the ultimate prize and later face challenges, you may be forced to downgrade the prize, which gives the impression that the scheme is moving backward instead of progressing.”

Mr. Kpeewa explained that a more strategic approach would have been to begin with modest but meaningful rewards and improve them in subsequent editions as the scheme gains stability, sponsorship, and public trust.

To illustrate his point, he noted that if the organizers are unable to meet financial targets in the future and are compelled to replace a car with a motorbike as the top prize, it would appear awkward and undermine the perceived growth of the awards.

He therefore advised the organizers of the Ghana Northern Music Awards to carefully review their prize structure to ensure consistency, credibility, and sustainability over time.

The comments have since sparked discussions among industry players and music fans, with opinions divided over whether bold incentives are necessary to elevate the status of the awards or whether caution and gradual growth remain the best approach for a new scheme.

Here is exactly what he said;
